Ebook About “An indispensible study” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review) drawing on history, public opinion surveys, and personal experience that presents a provocative examination of the unholy relationship between American Christianity and white supremacy, and issues an urgent call for white Christians to reckon with this legacy for the sake of themselves and the nation. As the nation grapples with demographic changes and the legacy of racism in America, Christianity’s role as a cornerstone of white supremacy has been largely overlooked. But white Christians—from evangelicals in the South to mainline Protestants in the Midwest and Catholics in the Northeast—have not just been complacent or complicit; rather, as the dominant cultural power, they have constructed and sustained a project of protecting white supremacy and opposing black equality that has framed the entire American story. With his family’s 1815 Bible in one hand and contemporary public opinion surveys by Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) in the other, Robert P. Jones delivers “a refreshing blend of historical accounting, soul searching reflection, and analysis” (Publishers Weekly) of the repressed relationship between Christianity and white supremacy. White Too Long is “a marvel” (Booklist, starred review) that demonstrates how deeply racist attitudes have become embedded in the DNA of white Christian identity over time and calls for an honest reckoning with a complicated, painful, and even shameful past. Jones challenges white Christians to acknowledge that public apologies are not enough—accepting responsibility for the past requires work toward repair in the present. White Too Long is not an appeal to altruism. It is “a powerful and much-needed book” (Eddie S. Glaude Jr, professor at Princeton University and author of Begin Again) drawing on lessons gleaned from case studies of communities beginning to face these challenges. Jones argues that contemporary white Christians must confront these unsettling truths because this is the only way to salvage the integrity of their faith and their own identities. More broadly, it is no exaggeration to say that not just the future of white Christianity, but the outcome of the American experiment is at stake.Book White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity Review :
972 “Person of color” here.Horrible book. Clearly written through the lens of critical race theory. Whatever the intentions of the author may be, this book is a catalyst for creating racial animosity within the church. If enough people read this, it won’t be long before white and black racial tensions become the predominant pattern in the church in the United States - something completely antithetical to the Christian message which is supposed to be blind to race. Instead this book encourages Christians to see everything through race.In particular when it comes to the Catholic Church, this book is misleading and seeks to portray the church in a specific way as to advance its racial narrative. Insufficient attention is given to frequent condemnations from the Vatican as far back as the 1400s on slavery and not treating blacks as full human beings. Catholics in the US were more immersed in American culture than in Catholic principles. The truth is that things are complicated and while christians must be in the world but not of it, too many Christians blindly adopt the social ills of the prevailing culture - including now. Slavery and racial prejudice may have been an issue in the past but it has come again today in the form of critical race theory in this book. The author fails to make this distinction and instead seems to inseparably tie together “white supremacy” to Christianity. This is one of the largest and most deceptive lies in prevailing culture today. Christianity is not white - although so many American Critical Race Theorists are so blind as to think everything revolves around the United States and US culture. Since all the Christians of this country initially came from Northern European countries one could make the dubious claim that its a white religion, yet this is flawed. One can make a case for evangelical Christianity being a unique product of US nation, but not older religions like the Catholic Faith which are largely Mediterranean/Middle Eastern in ideology and origin.Too many generalizations are made without much substantive evidence - such as the presumptions that many sermons contained a white supremacist message. There is also plenty of hypocrisy here too as the author critiques segregation when one of the biggest movements among CRT proponents is resegregation.Unfortunately, this man seems to have abandoned the Christian worldview and message for that of a worldly view that sees everything through the lens of race. Race has become the window through which we arrive at sanctity, rather than the 1 new race in Jesus Christ“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” - 1 Peter 2:9 Read Online White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity Download White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity PDF White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity Mobi Free Reading White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity Download Free Pdf White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity PDF Online White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity Mobi Online White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity Reading Online White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity Read Online Robert P.
